RS Advisors is a small niche advisory firm providing services to corporates in South Africa. Our core competencies are providing management advisory services in respect of corporate transactions, contract management and in respect of distressed businesses and exposures.

John Evans
B.COM CA (AUS), CA(SA)
John began his career in Australia in 1996 with specialist turnaround management business Jirsch Sutherland.
He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Australia in 2000 and initially assisted with and later managed over 40 Voluntary Administrations, a restructuring process very similar to business rescue in South Africa.
In 2001 John joined Deloitte Reorganisation Services in Edinburgh before transferring to Deloitte South Africa in 2002 where, together with Philip Reynolds began developing a Reorganisation services business focussed on turnaround and distressed business advisory for the South African firm. During his time at Deloitte, John was appointed as Director Corporate Finance to run the existing Corporate Finance team in Pretoria whilst continuing to develop the Reorganisation services division.
In 2008 John founded RS Advisors which provides Business Rescue, Advice to clients exposed to distress businesses, turnaround management and Corporate Finance advisory services. In addition to the sub Saharan work, John has assisted the Deloitte Reorganisation Services team in London on a number of restructuring assignments in Europe, USA and the Middle East.
John passed with distinction the Law Society programme “Advanced Short Course in Business Rescue Practice” and is certified as a senior business rescue practitioner in South Africa.
Philip Reynolds
B.COM CA (SA)
Philip Reynolds, a former partner at Deloitte, established the Reorganisation Services practice in South Africa as one of the leading providers of advice to distress businesses in Southern Africa.
Prior to turning his focus to business rescue and corporate recovery in 2002, Philip practised as a registered liquidator for 12 years and was an audit partner in 2 of the big 5 firms for 17 years.
Philip joined RS Advisors in 2012 and continues to advise distressed clients both informally and formally as the appointed Business Rescue Practitioner.
Philip is certified as a senior business rescue practitioner in South Africa.
Iain Stockill
B.COM
Iain joined the RS Advisors team in early 2020 after a 20-year career in the corporate world.
His corporate career includes working for blue chip companies such as Nampak, SABMiller (both in South Africa and abroad), Southern Sun, Webber Wentzel and Absa where Iain specialised in the implementation of financial systems.
Iain has a keen interest in master data and effective translation of data to information.
Iain’s extensive experience in finance, processes relating to finance and team leadership are core skills that serve him well in business rescue assignments.
Iain believes that an inclusive team will deliver better results than an autocratic leader and strives to ensure cooperation and inclusiveness.
Iain Stockill holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and has completed, with distinction, the University of Johannesburg Short Learning Program in Business Rescue.
Iain is a registered Business Rescue Practitioner.
Robin Duff
BA LLB
Robin began his career in 1976 as an attorney with Bell Dewar Hall in Johannesburg.
In 1981 he joined Steinmuller Africa, a leading engineering company operating in the power generation sector where he subsequently spent 18 years. He started out as a legal advisor rising through the ranks until his appointment as a Director of the company. Following the take-over of Steinmuller by Babcock Borsig he was transferred to the holding company in Germany in 2000 as vice president responsible for subsidiary company business in Asia and South Africa.
In 2003 the power group of Babcock Borsig was taken over by Hitachi and after a three-year tenure at Hitachi Power Europe, Robin returned to South Africa in 2006 as Chief Financial Officer of Hitachi Power Africa where he remained until his retirement in mid-2013.
After a one year sabbatical Robin joined RS Advisors and, while he is aligned with the company’s corporate finance and restructuring assignments, he has introduced additional advisory services linked to his extensive knowledge of the power market. These include legal and infrastructure contracting advice and transformation and economic development services.
